President report on Friday 7/10/2011 Meeting

Honored Guests, Fellow Toastmasters and Friends

We had an exciting and enjoyable meeting on Friday 7 Oct 2011,, which saw the return of our beloved ATMG Dr Edlin Abraham and Daisy, whom we so dearly missed. Believe you me, he introduced Toastmasters to and brought more than ten of his friends and associates to the meeting. The number of guests brought in by any single past member was historic since the inception of our club on 30 Jan 1999.

The said eclipsed with the official club visit of our charming Area C2 Governor, ACS Lee Meng Tze. Her presence and participation in the club’s meeting indeed brought grace and luster to the meeting. Besides, she took the opportunity of installing our three Exco Members – Phang Chew Yee as VPM, Boon Sin Cheang as Treasurer and Rosidah as SAA followed by distributing the name tags to the entire EXCO members. For your information the line up for 2011/2012 Exco is as follows:

President : DTM Dr William Lau
VPE : CTM Lim Chee Kuan
VPM : CC Phang Chew Yee
VPPR : TM Rick Sim
Secretary : CC Erin Lee
Treasurer : CC Boon Sin Cheang
SAA : TM Rosidah
SAA convened the meeting sharp at 7.30 pm and set the meeting ambience by getting all present to introduce themselves. CC Boon presented his invocation message – >From Impossible to Possible.

CC Alex Lu ably conducted the Table Topics Session and the topics chosen were challenging indeed. Our guest Sharon emerged as the Best Table Topics Speaker. President Dr William Lau presented her with a ribbon.

We had two impressionable assignment speakers - TM Sirajo of Stamford who completed his 8th Speech Assignment, “Fitness 101” from the Basic Communication Manual and CC Vincent Chow of TAR College did his 5th Advanced Communication Manual assignment on “Obama’s 2004 Democratic Keynote Address”. Their respective speech evaluators were CC Vincent Soon and ATMG Dr Edlin Abraham. They based their evaluation on the sand-witched method.
President Dr William Lau congratulated our ACB Stephen Fernando who emerged as the Champion as the Division C Humorous Speech Contest on 1 Oct 2011. He will be representing our Club, Area C2 and Division C at the District Semi Annual Humorous Speech Contest on Sunday 23 Oct 2011 in Malacca. Members are encouraged to attend the said Semi-annual Convention to lend moral support to our beloved Stephen.

Dr William Lau further announced that MIHRM is going to launch a 10-lession English Language Program for Toastmasters as well as non-Toastmaster effective 4 November 2011. Details are being finalized and clubs in the Klang Valley will be notified. At the same time, 10 minutes will be allocated at each meeting to fortify the vocabulary of members.

SAA ought to be congratulated for organizing the food and meeting infrastructure. Top marks for choosing the curry puff and the kuih2- muih2 which were all consumed.

The guests were satisfied with our meeting – friendly, fun and enjoyable. See you at the next joint meeting at 7.00 pm on Thursday 27 Oct 2011 at the Wisma IEM. For direction please call our VPE C K Lim at 019 3125100 or VPM Phang at 012 6643412.
